DocuMem Document Management
DocuMem is our solution to your document management needs. DocuMem is an HTTP-based client-server application that utilizes the latest technology to enable you to acquire documents from high-performance department grade scanners, then store them on a secure server so that they can easily be accessed from any geographic location.

With DocuMem, documents can be acquired in several modes, including singly, in batch, and by using specially designed barcode recognition algorithms. As soon as a document is acquired, it's instantly stored on a secure server which is based on industry standard protocols and security models. Once stored on the server, the document is available to anyone in your organization via their choice of a rich Windows-based viewer application, or a set of robust Internet Explorer-optimized Web pages that require zero installation on the users machine. Unlike many client-server solutions in place today, DocuMem is a real-time system, meaning that documents are available as soon as they are acquired, and can be edited live by any authorized user, from anywhere in the world.

Document Acquisition Support for acquiring images in single, multiple, index now, autoindex, and barcode recognition mode, through the use of TWAIN driven high-speed document-fed scanners. Support for acquiring images as documents from your local drive or network. Standard file types such as TIF, Bitmap, JPEG, Gif, and Portable Network Graphics (PNG) are fully supported. All acquisition is location independent. You can scan from any computer in the world as long as it has a valid Internet connection. DocuMem works with the native Internet protocol, and requires no VPN or special firewall settings. DocuMem is the ideal solution for scanning documents at a branch and having them instantly stored on the home office server. DocuMem supports the Microsoft Still Image Push Model technology, which means that if you scanners supports feature, you can scan automatically by simply placing a document into the document feeder. DocuMem is based on your own custom fields, lists, and document types, supporting virtually any combination of data types and information. There is no limit to the number of fields, lists, and document types you may create and use. Document Storage DocuMem uses cutting edge technology to perform all document transfer and storage, all built on a rich HTTP and XML based architecture. DocuMem is based on Microsoft SQL Server 2000, but will also work on Microsoft SQL Server 7, and the Microsoft Date Engine (MSDE). This allows you to choose the best balance of price and performance for your organization. All DocuMem documents are stored in the newest and one of the most popular image formats: Portable Network Graphics (PNG). PNG files are non-lossy, so you will always retain the acquired clarity and quality, but at the same time, are runtime encoded for small size. This means more efficient usage of your server's hard drives. DocuMem documents are stored in a logical fashion that allows easy backup to any standard tape or optical backup system. Document Retrieval DocuMem supports two methods of document retrieval: via the rich DM View Windows client application, and by the easy to use DM Web Internet Explorer browser-based application. DocuMem allows you to search for documents in so many different ways: by any of your custom designed fields in your document types, contact, by document number, etc. Searching supports partial text queries, date ranges, beginning and ending values, etc. Documents can easily be sent to any other user via a simple drag-n-drop Queue routing system. Documents can easily be sent to anyone via Microsoft Outlook email, complete with your Outlook contact and phonebooks. Documents can be saved locally on your hard drive, for storage on floppy-disk or CD-ROM (if you have a CD-ROM writer and software), and can be printed to your local printer. Using DM Web, documents can be retrieved, viewed, and printed from any late-version Internet Explorer, without having to install anything whatsoever. Its so easy to view documents even while away from your office or usual DocuMem workstation.

The DocuMem Server
DM Server can be hosted in several ways. You can opt to purchase and host the DM Server yourself. In this case, your documents and data will reside on your own locally installed server hardware. This is great for larger volume customers who have their own IT support staff. However, if you are a smaller volume customer, or just don't want to purchase and install the server on your own hardware, you can use the application from a DocuMem hosting provider. DocuMem is Easy to Install
Whether you are installing a full-blown DocuMem Server, or just the Client applications, it is a very simple straightforward task. All DocuMem components can easily be installed from a single CD-ROM. The server tools installer automates the complex processes of configuring your server to serve data over HTTP, installing and configuring a bundled version of Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) if needed, or performing all steps required to install the database schema and meta-information into your own existing Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Installing the client applications couldn't be simpler. You can use the CD, or set up a download location on your local network to allow users (with the proper security privileges) to install the program as needed. The client install takes less than a minute and requires zero administration.
